Treasurer Wanted!

This role represents a significant opportunity to become a Trustee of SWAN LGBT Networking.  Our Board of Trustees are responsible for governing the charity and making sure that we successfully achieve our purpose, are well run, and well managed. 

For about a couple of hours of your time each month, it could be you, helping to support SWAN’s charitable aims:

SWAN’s Organisational Purposes:

1. The promotion of inclusivity and helping to eliminate discrimination in Scottish workplaces through the hosting of business networking events focussed on LGBT people and open to all, to meet in a safe and welcoming environment where they can be themselves and meet other LGBT people. This is in support of ”the promotion of equality and diversity” charitable purpose from the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005.

2. To foster good relations between LGBT and other people, supporting equality and diversity good practice in the workplace.

3. To bring together public, private, and third sector organisations through networking events which are hosted by organisations or other organisations for their employees and networks, SWAN network members and others.

4. To represent LGBT people in the workplace in submissions and campaigning aspects in public life and public services.

5. To share best practice, acting as consultants, for those who run people networks or those looking to commence doing so. In governing a charity, the Trustees embrace a range of formal responsibilities, but good governance is the foundation upon which success is built. 

As an officer of the Board, the Treasurer’s main function will be to provide a watchdog role overall aspects of financial management, working closely with other members of the Board to safeguard the charity's finances. SWAN is a small charity with few financial commitments, so the Treasurer role will not involve complex accounting. 

In summary, the Treasurer is responsible for financial oversight including:

·      Following SWAN accounting procedures;

·      Recording and co-signing all financial transactions to enable accounts to be audited to meet OSCR requirements;

·      Governance of all delegated fundraising and income generation activities.

·      Financial reporting.

You will then be invited for an initial, informal discussion with Carole, our Chair where you can find out more about the role and the charity. Existing Trustees will shortlist applicants for interview as soon as possible thereafter. Formal interviews will be conducted by three Trustees. New appointments will be made under the terms of SWAN’s Constitution.

There will be an opportunity for selected candidates to attend a Board meeting prior to appointment.

Skills Required:

Personal (voluntary)or professional experience of accounting/ keeping financial records. Full induction will be provided from previous SWAN Treasurer. 

Successful candidates will have a passion for networking and engagement and an understanding of the issues facing LGBT+ people on Scotland’s society and workplaces. You will be supportive of SWAN’s aims, and will be an effective communicator and inclusive approach. You will be reliable and organised and able to commit your time to SWAN as Treasurer.

This role is voluntary and Trustees undertake their roles for no financial payment
